School catch-up program for refugee children with the support of UNICEF
September is just a few weeks away, which means the start of school! This time it is not only in local educational institutions to where students are preparing for the new school year!
They rang the bell at the Dorcas Refugee Center! From September, we developed another joint educational project, this time with the help of UNICEF. Thanks to the long discussions and arrangements, we are starting a program with the young people living in the Refugee Center, which will help them integrate into the local educational institutions.
During the summer vacation, the children received continuous educationby the teachers of the Hungarian Interchurch Aid. During these nearly 2 months, the teachers made immeasurably great progress with the children. The children prepared enthusiastically and diligently for each lesson. They got used to the daily routine, and at home they practiced writing and reading with their homework given in class.

And from September, the catch-up classes will now continue with the support of UNICEF! Five teachers will teach the students in the classrooms created here. Within the framework of the small group sessions, we try to develop these children with other alternative educational methods in addition to the reading and writing they have learned so far. Thanks to music and dance classes, as well as sports activities, young people benefit from complex skill development.
Our mission is still to ensure that school-age refugee children receive the level of basic knowledge that will enable them to continue their studies in a public educational institution. Most of the young people from Transcarpathia are not having the basic school knowledge. They haven't learned it, so it's our job to teach them these shortcomings.Unfortunately, the war is far from over.
We don't know how long it will last and what the outcome will be. At the same time, the majority of the people who live here no longer want to go home, but would rather start a new life here, in Hungary. Therefore, we consider it especially important that these young people integrate and catch up in the Hungarian education system.

Of course, we also need your help to ensure that everything goes smoothly during our catch-up project. As in all schools, there is a huge need for various stationery, drawing sheets, notebooks and chalks. It is a huge help for us if you receive such an offer. You can help the refugee children's education program either in kind or financially. We, the staff and the students, are eagerly awaiting the start of the Dorcas School. This initiative will bring a lot of changes, it can be a milestone in the lives of many. A new chapter will begin here in the Refugee Center, which you could be a part of!
